Singer Rihanna and rapper Jay-Z have announced that they will donate $1 million each to help combat the effects of the coronavirus pandemic in Los Angeles and New York.
Resources from Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation and Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation will support undocumented workers, prisoners, homeless people, the elderly and the children of healthcare professionals who are fighting Covid-19 in both cities.
The disease has infected more than 181,000 people in the US so far and still looking dangerous.
The money will be handed over directly to organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the New York Immigration Coalition, the Los Angeles City Hall Fund and the Public Schools Fund, as well as for care children, food and school supplies for the children of health professionals and emergency services.
“In times of crisis it is imperative that we come together as a community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to basic needs: shelter, health, nutrition and education. The only way to overcome this pandemic is through love and action, ”Jay-Z’s mother explained, Gloria Carter, who serves as CEO of her son’s foundation.
